Alyssa Milano was arrested outside the White House on Tuesday after protesting for voting access.
Milano was reportedly protesting with the group People for the American Way as the Senate prepared to vote on the Freedom to Vote Act.
"I was just arrested for demanding the Biden Administration and the Senate to use their mandate to protect voting rights," the actress wrote on Twitter.
The bill is a trimmed-down variant of the version Republicans blocked in June.
Among other things, the legislation calls for a relaxed registration process for would-be voters, a minimum early voting window of 15 days, and the declaration of Election Day as a federal holiday.
I was just arrested for demanding the Biden Administration and the Senate to use their mandate to protect voting rights. Stand with me and @peoplefor and tell the Senate and White House that voting rights shouldn’t depend on where you live. #DontMuteOurVote

"Stand with me and @peoplefor and tell the Senate and White House that voting rights shouldn't depend on where you live," Milano posted.
She alluded to the words of the late Rep. John Lewis, a Georgia Democrat, to bolster her argument, according to a statement.
"John Lewis told us, 'The vote is the most powerful nonviolent change agent you have in a democratic society. You must use it because it is not guaranteed. You can lose it,'" she said. "We need federal law right now to protect voting rights for all Americans, no matter which state they happen to live in. It's a cause that's worth getting arrested for."
The actress was reportedly one of 23 people to be detained at the protest.
