‘Twas the night before the rankings, and all through the land,

Not a player was sleeping, not even a fan.

Adrenaline still pumping, our season – perfection.

No doubt in our minds – no fear of rejection.

We all turned on the show, to see what they deemed.

Michigan one, Washington two, and then Texas three.

The anticipation rose, but no thought of disaster.

Undefeated power 5 champion, that’s all that should matter.

The time had come, to hear our name;

A team well deserved, a coach of high claim.

And as the screen showed crimson, hearts started to bleed,

A wave of disappointment, all because of greed.

Thirteen games they showed up, and not one time beaten.

Defied all odds, overcame setbacks all season.

Why in the world, we all asked in some way,

What reason would explain their decision that day?

“They aren’t the same team” was all they could muster.

Transparency, ha, the idea made them fluster.

The TV announcers then all had their say,

It was clear to Nole Nation who the money had swayed.

The day will go down as the death of our sport,

The idea of the underdog and all it purports.

A year of sacrifice, just thrown down the drain,

Is there a reason at all to go and play each game?

But all will soon know, the roar of our tribe. The heritage behind it, the chant of our fight.

For not all can claim, the spirit that blesses this place,

And we are a people who will now show no more grace.

Try as they might, they know not what they mess with.

A people of war – we shall not be bested.

The pride of our people, our town, our team,

Runs through us all and never recedes.

Rumbling in the distance,

The war cry does come.

And in case you’ve forgotten,

A people Unconquered does not run.
