Amarillo celebrates love with Valentine's themed events

For those who love (and/or hate) the Valentine's Day holiday, Amarillo is hosting themed activities for everyone throughout the month.

Killer Date Night

The Art Plug-in of Amarillo will host a sip and paint Killer Date Night, Feb. 13-14 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at 4149 SW 34th Ave.

During the event, attendees will have the choice to paint a pre-sketched drawing of Michael Myers from "Halloween" or Ghostface from "Scream," each with a Valentine's twist. Attendees are encouraged to bring their favorite beverage of choice. A pizza and dessert option can be added to the experience for $12 per person.

This event is available for ages 18 and older. Tickets must be purchased prior to the event. Attendees are encouraged to dress for the occasion, and a limited number of painting aprons will be provided.

Canvases are available at $30 for 11x14 and $40 for 16x20.

VFW Dinner and Dance

The Amarillo VFW post 1475, located at 1401 SW 8th Ave., invites the community to its Sweetheart Dinner and Dance, to be held Saturday, Feb.10 beginning at 6 p.m. The event is open to the public for a $15 donation.

The three-course dinner featuring lasagna will begin at 6 p.m. Live entertainment will be provided by DJ Frank. Donations will be accepted at the door. For more information, visit their Facebook page.

"Sweetheart" Social Dance

Footloose Amarillo presents a "Sweetheart" Social Dance featuring Texas Hits and a Miss on Saturday, Feb. 10 at Tripp's Harley-Davidson in the HOG Party Room.The entrance to the party room is on the west side of the building. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., and a free dance lesson will be held 7-8 p.m., followed by the dance party from 8 to 10 p.m.

Tickets are $20 for ages 18, $5 for ages 13 to 17, and ages 12 and younger receive free admission. Bottled water, cups and ice will be provided, guests are encouraged to bring their own beverage. Cowboy Sweetheart

As previously reported by the Globe-News, the Amarillo Art Institute will host its first Cowboy Sweetheart Dinner and Dance on Feb. 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Arts in the Sunset Legacy Room, located at 3701 Plains Blvd.

The event will include live music from Jean Prescott, with a three-course meal provided by Cask and Cork featuring a prime rib dinner. Attendees are encouraged to wear their best dancing shoes and enjoy the art throughout the facility.

Jam with Love

Amarillo College's (AC) Art Force Piano Series hosts its third installment, a Valentine's themed production titled "Jam with Love" Feb. 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the Concert Hall Theater on the AC Washington Street Campus, followed by a reception in the lobby.

As stated in an AC news release, this diverse concert will feature a variety of instruments, from piano to harp and violin to voice. The event will feature music composed by Gershwin, Rachmaninoff, Lionel Richie, Cy Coleman, John Denver and more.

'Cards and Letters from Home' exhibit at war memorial

The Texas Panhandle War Memorial and Education Center will honor Navy Veteran Jackie Smith of Amarillo, on Feb. 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a special Valentines Day tribute, “Cards and Letters from Home.”

During the event, attendees can view and read a series of Valentine's cards and more sent to Smith from students of local elementary schools including Oakdale, Landergin, and Humphrey’s Highland in 1991.

Students from each of the schools have been invited to tour the War Memorial Education Center and view the exhibits. Students who attended these schools in 1991 were in class with Mrs. Adams (Landergin), Mrs. Rankin (Humphrey’s Highland), or Mrs. McCarter (Oakdale) and are welcome to the War Memorial Education Center to view their work from 33 years ago, to read and to remember.

The Amarillo Zoo will host a Kids Night Out event from 6 to 9 p.m. on Feb. 14 and 16, including a parrot pizza party.

For only $25 per child, participants will enjoy an evening filled with adventure that starts with an interactive tour of the zoo, where kids can get up close and personal with some of their favorite animals. Following the tour, attendees will curl up with a nice pillow and blanket or a sleeping bag to eat some pizza and enjoy a movie.

This program is for kids ages 6 to 12 years old. Pillows, blankets and sleeping bags are not provided. Registration is now open and closes on Feb. 13 and 15 for each dates, or when all spots are full. Dairy Queen - offering a The Red Velvet Cake Blizzard until Feb. 26, available while supplies last at participating locations.

The Western Horseman Club - First Annual Valentines Dinner, to be held Feb. 14 at 2501 E I-40 with timed seating available at 5:30, 7:30 and 9:30 p.m., including a five-course menu created by chefs Rory Schepisi and Alberto Vargas. Reservations are $200 per couple and can be made by calling (806) 877-1600.

Cask and Cork - Galentines Brunch and Vendor Market to be held Feb. 10, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 5461 McKenna Square Unit 101, will include 12 local vendors and live music from DJ Juicy K. The special for the event includes $13 pizzas, and $25 Mimosa and Sangria Carafes. The brunch menu will also be available.

Nomad Napoletana - A Valentine's Day Dinner will be held Feb. 14 at 614 S. Polk St. with hourly time slots from 5 to 8 p.m. centered around a six-course dinner. additional wine pairing is available for $35. Reservations can be made on Eventbrite or by phone at (806) 376-4700.

Drunken Oyster - A Valentine's Day Dinner will be held Feb. 14 at 7606 SW 45th Ave #100, with time slots including 5:30, 7 and 8:30 p.m. The meal includes a five-course dinner with a complementary glass of champagne and roses available for women.
