Amarillo crews battle 2-alarm fire on Jefferson Street Tuesday night

The Amarillo Fire Marshal's Office is investigating a 2-alarm fire Tuesday night that heavily damaged a warehouse building on Jefferson Street.

According to a news release, at about 9:57 p.m., the Amarillo Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 700 block of North Jefferson Street.

Fire units that arrived to the scene found a large garage with flames and smoke showing throughout the building. Crews positioned hose lines and an aerial ladder stream around the building, and they began to extinguish the fire from the outside.

A second alarm was requested to assist with firefighting operations, the release said. The fire was deemed under control by 11 p.m., and eight units and 26 firefighters responded to the scene.

Estimated damages were not available, but the roof and sections of the exterior and interior walls collapsed, according to the release.

Fire crews remained on the scene to ensure all hot spots found throughout the building were extinguished.
