Celebrate Ancient China with Shen-Yun

Experience the beauty of Ancient China with Shen-Yun at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 10 at the Amarillo Civic Center, 401 S. Buchanan St., entrances 12 and 1.

Shen Yun's unique artistic vision expands theatrical experience into a multi-dimensional, deeply moving journey. Shen Yun Performing Arts is a nonprofit organization based in New York. Its mission is to revive 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture. Traditional Chinese culture — with its deep spiritual roots and profoundly optimistic worldview — was displaced by communism in China. Cinemark to screen the Met's 'Fedora'

Cinemark Hollywood 16 and XD, 9100 Canyon Drive, presents a special screening of The Met: Live in HD's "Fedora" at 11:55 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 14.

Umberto Giordano’s exhilarating drama returns to the Met repertory for the first time in 25 years. Packed with memorable melodies, showstopping arias, and explosive confrontations, "Fedora" requires a cast of thrilling voices to take flight, and the Met’s new production promises to deliver.

Soprano Sonya Yoncheva, one of today’s most riveting artists, sings the title role of the 19th-century Russian princess who falls in love with her fiancé’s murderer, Count Loris, sung by star tenor Piotr Beczała. Soprano Rosa Feola is the Countess Olga, Fedora’s confidante, and baritone Artur Ruciński is the diplomat De Siriex, with much-loved Met maestro Marco Armiliato conducting.

Director David McVicar delivers a detailed and dramatic staging based around an ingenious fixed set that, like a Russian nesting doll, unfolds to reveal the opera’s three distinctive settings — a palace in St. Petersburg, a fashionable Parisian salon, and a picturesque villa in the Swiss Alps.

Tickets for this special live streaming event are $27.06 for adults and $24.90 for seniors. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit fathomevents.com

Still today Lourdes is more alive than ever. And Our Lady remains active and attentive to each of her children.About 6 million people visit it every year. After the pandemic, her devotion is increasing. The multitudinous processions of people seeking a miracle feed a small army of caregivers (nurses, volunteers, hospitalists) who accompany them.

"Lourdes" is an insightful meditation on the human capacity for empathy and hope, and especially a journey into the mystery of religious faith in the face of life's profound tribulations.
