Magic Vibe Awards/Music Festival set for Sept. 4
The first edition of Magic Vibe Awards/Music Festival takes place at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 4 at the Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts and will provide an explosive affair with preparations and consultations, and artist exposure..
Magic Vibe Award is the sole East Africa Award Ceremony and music festival in the diaspora. They cater to all music genres including film and sport but are not limited to bongo flavor, Taarab, Afro beat, Afro pop, Soukous and Reggae. In its first year of existence, Magic Vibe Awards is the instrumental force that has aided in the crossover and commercial recognition. East Africa music specifically Afro beat and Bongo flavor receive today. Magic vibe Award vision is to be endorsed by some of the biggest East African artists from Tanzania, Kenya Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Ethiopia, Somalia and many more.
The unique theme ‘Flavors of East Africa’ draws inspiration from the diverse flavors found on the continent. Like the people, the food, and the culture, the music comes in different melodic flavors and this virtual ceremony is a musical experience of the different flavors of East African music.
Exhibit, "Quinceañera Traditions," now open at PPHM
CANYON — Experience the historic and symbolic meaning of the quinceañera at the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum during "Quinceañera Traditions," the newest textile exhibit on display at PPHM now through February 2023. It will feature stories from those in the Panhandle region about the tradition and three generations of ‘quince’ celebrations.
"As a rite of passage, a quinceañera, is a celebration of food, family, and faith that encompasses both the old and the new. Quinceañera Traditions celebrates the traditions surrounding a fifteen year old’s journey from girl to woman," a news release says.
“PPHM is excited to celebrate the quinceañera and its unique importance to the people of our area.” said Deana Craighead, Curator of Art. “Quinceañera Traditions tells stories from our community and has been met with tremendous enthusiasm. Over these many months of planning, I have been overwhelmed by the people I have met and their incredible openness and generosity. We would especially like to thank our exhibit sponsors Dean Boyd, Los Barrios de Amarillo, Telemundo and Amarillo National Bank. I encourage the public to visit the museum to experience it for themselves.”
Located on the campus of West Texas A&M University, PPHM features more than 285,000 square feet and over 2 million artifacts dedicated to preserving this area’s past.

Friends of Fogelberg set for Sept. 9
The annual Friends of Fogelberg concert is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Sept. 9, in the Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts, 500 S. Buchanan St.
Dan Fogelberg died from prostate cancer on Dec. 16, 2007. We miss him dearly.
It was Dec. 17, 2007 when Joe Ed Coffman (in pain of losing his favorite singer/songwriter to cancer) started calling musicians - Bob Hopkins and Woody Key - about putting together a concert benefit to play Dan's music, and raise money for prostate cancer awareness.
Their first tribute concert was 2008 at the Globe News Center for the Arts. The concerts and dream continues raising over $300,000 in 12 years, and hosting Free PSA Blood Test to men in the Amarillo Panhandle. This allows men to be flagged - early detection for prostate cancer can save men's lives.
All proceeds benefit Harrington Cancer and Health Foundation to provide FREE prostate screenings and prostate cancer awareness.

Sublime with Rome to perform at Starlight
Sublime with Rome takes the stage at 8:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, at Starlight Ranch.

Toadies return to Starlight Ranch

Best known as the creators of the 1995 grunge staple "Possum Kingdom," Fort Worth's Toadies found success during the alternative rock boom of the '90s with crunchy yet hooky guitar-based music that put a fresh spin on hard rock. With tunes influenced by the Pixies and guitars that were powerful but melodic, the Toadies made a splash with their major label debut, 1995's Rubberneck.

Tri-State Fair & Rodeo to host 'Dancin' in the Dirt' concert series as part of this year's fair festivities
The Tri-State Fair and Rodeo is launching the “Dancin' in the Dirt” concert series, holding performances in the Amarillo National Center to kick off the fair's opening weekend. “Dancin' in the Dirt” will feature country music artists in concert on the floor of the Amarillo National Center, with an open area on the dirt of the rodeo arena for patrons to dance and enjoy the live music.
Wade Bowen and Scotty Alexander will open the 2022 event on Friday, Sept. 16. Described by the Tri-State Fair as synonymous with Texas Country Music, Wade Bowen has performed with more than 4,000 shows under his belt in his 20 years in country music. An artistic descendant of American icons like Guy Clark, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Robert Earl Keen, and more, Bowen is another link in a Texas chain of roots-rock poets stretching back more than 50 years. Scotty Alexander makes his home in Bandera, Texas, and is a veteran singer, songwriter, and recording artist with more than 10,000 live shows to his credit as a solo or supporting act. He is a five-time Texas Country Music nominee.
Performing on Saturday, Sept. 17, will be the Frontmen and Joe King. The Frontmen features the voices of 90’s country legends Richie McDonald (formerly of Lonestar), Larry Stewart (of Restless Heart), and Tim Rushlow (formerly of Little Texas). McDonald, Rushlow, and Stewart have collectively sold more than 30 million records and have had more than 30 major hits between them, such as Restless Heart classic, “The Bluest Eyes in Texas,” Lonestar smash hit, “Amazed,” and Little Texas’ iconic, “God Blessed Texas.” Joe King is a country singer and former professional NFL football player who played safety for five seasons in the NFL before retiring with the Oakland Raiders.

Jimmy Dean Music and Arts Festival scheduled for Sept. 16-17
The Jimmy Dean Music and Arts Festival takes place Friday and Saturday, Sept. 16-17 at the Jimmy Dean and Llano Estacado Museum in Plainview. This annual festival features live music, food trucks and arts and crafts vendors from all over West Texas.
Come experience family fun in the hometown of Jimmy Dean. Visit the museum that showcases his life from legendary entertainer to sausage entrepreneur. Admission to the festival and museum is free.
Friday at 7 p.m. will feature An Evening with Billy Dean Concert in the Harral Auditorium; tickets are $35. The Lions Club will be selling pre-show burgers at 5 p.m. Friday in the Festival Parking Lot.
Saturday at 7 p.m. will hold the Ben and Noel Haggard Concert in the Harral Auditorium, which also has an admission cost of $35.

Beach Boys making Amarillo stop, now with John Stamos
The Beach Boys will make a stop in Amarillo at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 23, at the Amarillo Civic Center auditorium.
The Beach Boys are led by Mike Love and Bruce Johnston, who, along with Jeffrey Foskett, Christian Love, Tim Bonhomme, John Cowsill, Keith Hubacher, Christian Love and Scott Totten continue the legacy of the iconic American band.
John Stamos will be playing with The Beach Boys on their Amarillo date, it was announced this week. A gifted drummer, singer and musician, Stamos has occasionally performed with the Beach Boys since 1985, making this show extra special. With a career spanning 30 years, Stamos has become one of the most revered television stars of his generation. Stamos won the 2016 People's Choice Award for “Favorite Actor in a New TV Series” for his role on FOX's Grandfathered, and was awarded TV Land's 'Timeless Icon' Award, presented to him by long-time friend and mentor, Garry Marshall. Also in 2016, 'Fuller House,' a multi-camera comedy spin-off of iconic comedy 'Full House,' premiered, with Stamos serving as a producer and guest star. The series which has been reported by Symphony Advanced Media to be the most watched TV program anywhere on streaming or traditional TV was recently renewed for its third season.

Bart Crow returns to Amarillo
Bart Crow makes his way back to Amarillo and the Starlight Ranch at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23, for an outdoor show.
With a sound all his own, Crow produces an ever-evolving flow of Red Dirt, Texas Country and Americana music.
Born and raised in Maypearl, country music singer/songwriter Crow made his first attempts to write songs while in the United States Army and started first performing live while studying at Tarleton State University in Stephenville.

'Celebrate America' with Amarillo Symphony at Hodgetown Oct. 1

Hoodoo Mural Festival returning to downtown Amarillo Oct. 1
The Hoodoo Mural Festival returns to downtown Amarillo on Saturday, Oct. 1.
Among the festival's music lineup will be Los Angeles’s modern pop duo Neil Frances, who recently released their debut album "There is No Neil Frances" in February; New Jersey-based music producer and DJ Flamingosis, known for his tunes that blend the sounds of funk, soul, and electronic music; multi-platform music producer Kaelin Ellis from today’s electronic and hip-hop beat scene; and up-and-coming electro-pop duo Little Jet.
In the mural art lineup is Tristan Eaton, who has more than 25 years of art experience with projects spanning the country and is often sought ought for his unique patchwork, multi-medium portraits; Ricardo Gonzalez (aka It’s A Living), a designer and artist from Durango, Mexico, who emphasizes unique typographies in his larger-than-life murals; and Los Angeles-based muralist Rabi, who is part of the artist collective CYRCLE and whose most notable fans include the likes of Shepard Fairey, Sean Combs, and the MGM Grand Las Vegas.
In addition, Hoodoo alumni Drew Merritt (2021) and Malcolm Byers (2019) are also set to return to the festival, the release says.

Jamey Johnson will be in concert at 8 p.m. Oct. 27 in the Civic Center Auditorium, with Kylie Frey also on the ticket.
Eleven-time Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Jamey Johnson is “one of the greatest country singers of our time,” according to the Washington Post. He is one of only a few people in the history of country music to win two Song of the Year Awards from both the CMA and ACMs. His 2008 album, That Lonesome Song, was certified platinum for 1 million in sales, and his 2010 ambitious double album, The Guitar Song, received a gold certification.
In addition, he won two Song of the Year Trophies, for “Give It Away” and “In Color,” both from the Academy of Country Music and the Country Music Association. He has received tremendous praise from The New York Times, Rolling Stone, The Wall Street Journal and other publications, many of which have hailed his albums as masterpieces. Mannheim Steamroller 2022 Christmas Tour comes to Amarillo Civic Center Complex Auditorium on Nov. 25
Celebrity Attractions and Amarillo Civic Center is ringing in the holiday season with the return of Mannheim Steamroller Christmas. Chip Davis, founder and creator of Mannheim Steamroller, will celebrate more than 35 years of his annual Christmas concert tour. Davis said the hallmark tour will begin on Nov. 15 and run through Dec. 30, with two traveling ensembles holding performances in cities across the country. “I remember when I came out with my first Christmas album in 1984 followed by our first tour. Back then, many in the music industry said focusing on Christmas just wouldn’t work,” said Davis. “Now, over 35 years later, we are still going strong. I want to thank our fans for making us part of their holiday tradition, especially after the hardships of the last few years. Today we often see multigenerational families join us during the holidays each year.”
Davis founded his own record label, American Gramaphone, which went on to become one of the industry’s largest independent record labels. A Grammy Award winner, Mannheim Steamroller has sold more than 41 million albums, with over 31.5 million in the Christmas genre. Their holiday CD’s have become synonymous with Christmas and occupy top positions on Billboard’s Seasonal Chart every year.

'Mostly Hits & the Mrs' Tour stops by Jan. 28 at Amarillo Civic Center
Grammy-winning Country superstar Clint Black and his wife Lisa Hartman Black are hitting the road again for year two of the “Mostly Hits & the Mrs” Tour with special guest Lily Pearl Black. They will be making a stop at the Amarillo Civic Center on Jan. 28, 2023.

Clint Black surged to superstardom leading the fabled Class of ’89, with five consecutive singles from his triple platinum debut album, “Killin’ Time,” reaching #1; a feat never accomplished before in any music genre. He followed that with his second album, certified triple platinum “Put Yourself in My Shoes,” followed by a string of certified gold and multi- platinum albums. Black has earned 22 #1 singles and 31 Top 10’s, making him one of the most successful singer/songwriters of the modern era. He has sold more than 20 million records and has received dozens of major awards and nominations including a GRAMMY and stars on both the Music City and Hollywood Walk of Fames. Lisa Hartman Black starred in the iconic TV show “Knots Landing,” which launched her career in a formidable array of movies and mini-series. With her prowess as an actress and her high TVQ, Lisa assured top ratings for the networks with her performances in “The Operation” with Joe Penny, “Roses Are for The Rich” with Bruce Dern, “Beverly Hills Cowgirl Blues” with James Brolin and “Without A Kiss Goodbye” with Chris Meloni and Cloris Leachman. She starred in three miniseries: “Valley of the Dolls,” “2000 Malibu Road” and Judith Krantz’s “Dazzle.”
Lisa and Clint starred together in “Still Holding On: The Legend of Cadillac Jack” and “Flicka: Country Pride.” Lily Pearl joined in the cast of the latter at age nine. Clint and Lisa released their Grammy-nominated duet, “When I Said I Do,” in 1999, which won an Academy of Country Music Award. The two were a part of “The Masked Singer,” season 4, as the first-ever duo, “The Snow Owls.”
