Amarillo Food Establishment Inspection Report for the week of Sept. 11, 2022

The Food Establishment Inspection Report is a weekly report that appears Sundays. Information is taken from reports provided by the Environmental Health Department, and individual reports can be viewed at its website, http://amarillo.gov/departments/community-services/environmental-health/foodinspections. A numerical grading system is now being used, with a score of 100 points being equivalent to zero demerits.

100 points – No major violation at the time of inspection

85 points – Considered an average score

70 points or below – Requires re-inspection within 24 hours

COS – Corrected on site during inspection

(A/92) Arden Road Elementary, 6801 Learning Tree Ave. Improper internal temperature of oatmeal apple bake in walk-in cooler. Correct by 09/11. Air gap needed under three-compartment sink. Correct by 10/08. Hot foods must be cooled to 70 degrees within two hours before storing in walk-in cooler. Correct by 09/18.

(A/99) Bee Hive Homes of Amarillo, 5800 S.W. 54th Ave. Cabinet door and hand sink faucet in need of repair; wood is peeling in cabinet under wash sink. Correct by 12/06.

(A/98) Big Jim’s Pizza Co., 3801 Olsen Blvd., Space 9. Pre-cooked chicken stored on top of raw beef in fridge; broken floor tiles under fridge and in cleaning room with three-compartment sink (repeat violation). Correct by 12/07.

(A/99) Bonham Middle School, 5600 S.W. 49th Ave. Freezer door must be repaired to close tightly. Correct by 12/05.

(A/92) Cliffside Coffee, 2540 Ross Osage Drive. No sanitizer bucket prepared. COS. Grease trap needed in establishment. Correct by 10/07. Several flies throughout establishment; sugar container not labeled; several pieces of equipment heavily soiled or accumulating dust build-up (repeat violation); exposed wood at drive-thru window must be covered, sealed or painted. Correct by 12/06.

(A/92) CVS Pharmacy #1543, 7301 Hillside Road. Mold on boxed water; backflow prevention device needed on mop sink. Correct by 09/05. Evidence of rodents in back room; every cooler heavily soiled with mold. Correct by 12/01.

(A/91) El Vaquero, 2200 S.E. 3rd Ave. Plumbing under three-compartment sink leaking onto floor. Correct by 09/15. Tomato sauce still in open can. Correct by 09/18. Back door not properly sealed; tortilla chip scoop handle touching top of food; tongs next to grill on dirty stove handle; soda machine diffuser hole found soiled; food residue and dust build-up on several surfaces; light bulbs above serving area without shields; grease receptacle must be placed on concrete and not on grass or dirt; cardboard and tape above three-compartment sink must be removed; window must be sealed tightly. (A/95) Hibachi Steak and Raman, 7701 W. I-40. No hand drying provisions at hand washing station. Correct by 09/12. Personal caramel coffee sweetener in cooler with consumer food; wet wiping cloths must be stored in sanitizer solution between uses; food must be stored in packages, covered containers or wrappings to prevent cross contamination; food must be stored at least six inches above the floor. Correct by 12/01.

(B/86) Holiday Inn Express, 9401 E. I-40. Dairy items in refrigerator in self-serving area at improper temperature. Correct by 09/09. Fridge in self-serve area not holding at proper temperature; no hand drying towels at hand sink (repeat violation). Correct by 09/16. Food handler certification needed (repeat violation); three-compartment sink needed (repeat violation - a re-inspection fee given for noncompliance). Correct by 10/06. HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points) plan needed for garlic in oil mixtures; records to confirm cooling and cold holding refrigeration time/temperature parameters are required as part of the HACCP plan and must be available upon request; no temperature records have been kept during the cook-chill process; pink nitrites for curing bacon found in establishment (a variance and HACCP plan is needed). (A/91) Valore Italian Restaurant and Grill, 900 S. Tyler St. Several packages of meat thawing improperly. COS. Minced garlic in olive oil sitting out at room temperature; open pickle juice jug in bar stored on shelf not refrigerated. Correct by 09/11. Shrimp in one hand sink and cleaning cloths in the other. Correct by 09/18. Wet wiping cloths must be stored in sanitizer solution between uses; cups with no handles in several large bins of dry spices; mold inside soda nozzle in bar; hand washing signs needed in all bathrooms. (A/92) Zino’s, 1009 S. Grand St., Suite 200. Tea dispenser spout heavily soiled and growing mold; weather strip needed at bottom of door. COS. No hand soap at hand sink in front of store. Correct by 09/17. No shields on light bulbs above ice machine; ceiling tiles in restroom must be changed to Vinyl coated tiles or changed to be non-absorbent (repeat violation). Correct by 12/06.
