Amarillo Food Establishment Inspection Report for the week of Oct. 2, 2022

The Food Establishment Inspection Report is a weekly report that appears Sundays. Information is taken from reports provided by the Environmental Health Department, and individual reports can be viewed at its website, http://amarillo.gov/departments/community-services/environmental-health/foodinspections. A numerical grading system is now being used, with a score of 100 points being equivalent to zero demerits.

100 points – No major violation at the time of inspection

85 points – Considered an average score

70 points or below – Requires re-inspection within 24 hours

COS – Corrected on site during inspection

These points correspond to the following letter grades:

A – 90 to 100

B – 80 to 89

C – 70 to 79

F – 69 and below

(A/96) Amarillo College Café, 2201 S. Washington St. Ground beef stored above whole cuts of beef. COS. Vent hoods dirty (repeat violation). Correct by 12/27.

(A/97) Big Spencer, 4101 S. Loop 335 East. Several flies inside establishment; measuring cup inside flour container with handle touching flour; nonfood-contact surfaces of equipment must be kept free of accumulation of dust, dirty, food residue and other debris (repeat violation). Correct by 12/27.

(B/87) Budnuts Mini Donuts, 909 S. Madison St. Quaternary sanitizer at improper concentration; household insecticide in establishment; rodent bait blocks uncovered. Correct by 09/29. No sanitizer test strips; hand sink not easily accessible. Correct by 10/03. Single-use gloves drying for reuse on rack above prep table; establishment very dirty; strong sewage odor near three-compartment sink due to lack of P-trap; employee restroom nonfunctioning (establishment was closed due to this and a re-inspection fee charged). (A/94) Dollar General #8372, 5131 Plains Blvd. Hand sink not accessible due to products in sink and also needs to be stocked (repeat violation). Correct by 10/03. Gaps at back door must be sealed; inside coolers need to be cleaned (repeat violation). Correct by 12/22.

(A/97) El Chihuahuense, 7908 Triangle Drive. No soap and paper towels at hand sink. Correct by 10/03. Debris and dust in back rooms and restrooms. Correct by 12/22.

(A/96) Gibbys, 4414 Willow St. Raw ground beef stored above ready-to-eat foods. COS. Door to mobile must be self closing or have a screen. Correct by 12/25.

(A/97) Hook & Reel, 5807 S.W. 45th Ave. No paper towels at hand washing station. Correct by 10/08. Scoop handle touching food. Correct by 12/27.

(A/97) House Bar, 1219 S.W. 10th Ave. Straws must be individually wrapped or in a dispenser; excess debris in corner of floors and surfaces; bathroom doors must be self-closing. Correct by 12/26.

(A/97) Hummer’s Sports Café, 2600 Paramount Blvd. Scoop handle in food. COS. Hand washing station used to dump ice. Correct by 10/09.

(A/97) Humphreys Highland Elementary, 3901 S.E. 15th Ave. Pests trap stored on shelf above three-compartment sink; sliced turkey thawing improperly. COS. Heavy build-up of grease and food debris on sidewalk in front of dumpster outside. Correct by 10/14.

(A/99) Ice Hole, 4101 S. Loop 335 East. Hole in wall above hand sink must be repaired or a door must be placed if valve needs to be accessible (repeat violation). Correct by 12/27.

(A/92) Little Caesar’s, 1900 S.E. 34th Ave., Suite 2600. Cardboard is not easily cleanable, durable or non-absorbent and should not be used on nonfood-contact surfaces. Correct by 10/06. Food handler certification needed. Correct by 10/10. Several flies inside establishment (repeat violation); food debris and grease build-up on racks; household stand up freezer must be replaced with commercial unit or a household chest freezer (repeat violation). (B/89) Schlotzsky’s/Cinnabon, 1612 Ross St. Microwave dirty near cinnamon roll prep; soda dispensers dirty with mold inside; employee did not wash hands before putting on gloves. Correct by 09/29. Lids on center make tables damaged; both cutting board prep areas too damaged to be properly cleaned and one growing mold in scratches. Correct by 10/06. Food stored next to mop sink without a splash guard (repeat violation); food residue build-up on shelving and mold on fans of walk-in (repeat violation); Mop stored improperly. Correct by 12/25.

(A/94) Sunrise Elementary, 5123 S.E. 14th Ave. Teriyaki and Soy sauces not refrigerated after opening. COS. Food service manager certificate expired. Correct by 10/09. Gaps at back door by water heater must be sealed (repeat violation). Correct by 12/28.

(A/98) Tacos Nayarit, 5215 S. Travis St. No food thermometer in mobile unit. Correct by 10/07.

(A/96) Taqueria MTZ, 4411 S. Wilson St. No sanitizer test strips. Correct by 10/08. Weather stripping missing around door; hole under grill must be repaired; permit number needed on each side of mobile; clean water inlet and grey water outlet must be labeled (repeat violation). Correct by 12/27.

(B/83) Thai Express, 3314 S. Washington St. No sanitizer in back kitchen area; sanitizer concentration in front area too strong; employee medication stored in kitchen. Correct by 10/01. HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points) plan needed for partial cooking (repeat violation); HACCP plan must be submitted to Environmental Health Department (repeat violation); cutting board heavily scored and must be sanded or replaced.
