Amarillo Food Establishment Inspection Report for the week of Sept. 25, 2022

The Food Establishment Inspection Report is a weekly report that appears Sundays. Information is taken from reports provided by the Environmental Health Department, and individual reports can be viewed at its website, http://amarillo.gov/departments/community-services/environmental-health/foodinspections. A numerical grading system is now being used, with a score of 100 points being equivalent to zero demerits.

100 points – No major violation at the time of inspection

85 points – Considered an average score

70 points or below – Requires re-inspection within 24 hours

COS – Corrected on site during inspection

(96) Aye San Bu Market 2, 3401 Plains Blvd. Thermometers needed in every cooler; sanitizer test strips needed. Correct by 10/01. Evidence of dead insects in crevices behind coolers; several areas between coolers and under shelves need to be cleaned. Correct by 12/20.

(A/97) Blue Sky, 5060 S. Coulter St. Dishes stacked wet; small cup used to scoop food then left stored in food (repeat violation); nonfood-contact surfaces of equipment must be kept free of accumulation of dust, dirt, food residue and other debris (repeat violation); floors must be repaired and tiles replaced (repeat violation). (A/95) Bowie 6th Grade Campus, 2901 Tea Anchor Blvd. Front fridge not holding at proper temperature. Correct by 09/29. Several containers stacked wet; ceiling tile missing from back room above water heater (repeat violation). Correct by 12/18.

(C/78) Buffalo Wild Wings, 9511 E. I-40. Raw chicken wings and other food items in walk-in cooler left uncovered and unprotected overnight; all food contact surfaces must be clean and sanitized to sight and touch. Correct by 09/23. All foods in reach-in drawers must be date marked when placed in single serve containers; hand washing cleanser and drying provisions must be stocked at each hand washing station; seals around reach-in prep table doors must be repaired; sanitizer in kitchen area ware washer and in bar area ware washer at improper concentrations. Raw chicken in cold hold unit uncovered and leaking on platform holding boxes of unopened raw chicken; open container of raw fish with no date or label; food and other debris on prep tables; sanitizing solutions must be changed every four hours or when cloudy or dirty; grease trap must be pumped and manifest kept on site for inspection. (A/96) Gorditas La Tita, 2411 E. Amarillo Blvd. No soap and paper towels at hand sink and dishes stored in it. Correct by 10/01. Tortilla dough stored in grocery bag instead of food grade bags or containers; vent hood needs to be cleaned; drip pan needs to be repaired. Correct by 12/20.

(A/97) Hero Nutrition, 1911 4th Ave., Canyon. Scoop handles touching food products (repeat violation); ceiling in bathroom must be smooth, durable, easily cleanable and non-absorbent; bathroom doors must be self-closing (repeat violation). Correct by 12/20.

(A/93) Jerry’s Café, 1601 S. Grand St. Sanitizer too strong. COS. Wait station countertops must be resealed or repainted to provide a surface that is easily cleanable and durable (repeat violation); Correct by 10/01. Excessive accumulation of debris on floors (repeat violation); vent hood, filters and all surrounding surfaces must be cleaned (repeat violation); light bulbs in dish washing area and kitchen prep area must adequately provide sufficient light. (A/96) KFC, 316 E. Amarillo Blvd. In-use tongs stored on soiled rags. COS. Gaps at back door must be sealed; outside and spouts of hot water dispensers dirty; several pans of raw chicken in back cooler in puddles of juice; pool of standing juice on floor; large amount of grease build-up on ground directly in front of Valley Proteins receptacle outside. (A/96) Longhorn Steakhouse, 8200 W. I-40. Build-up of ice in walk-in freezer. Correct by 09/30. Lid open on grease receptacle causing excessive flies; grease receptacle and brick next to it used as splash guard for used grease and has a thick layer of debris; backflow preventer on mop sink faucet covered in saran wrap.
