Amarillo High outlasts Frenship in nondistrict matchup

WOLFFORTH — Mackenzie Smith and Lacey Rice combined for 32 points to help propel Amarillo High to a 59-36 road victory over Frenship in a nondistrict game Monday held at the Tiger Pit.

Smith finished with a game-best 17 points, while Rice chipped in 15 to round out the double-figure scorers for the fifth-ranked Class 5A Lady Sandies (17-2).

Gabby Morales and Andie Caddel each finished with nine points to pace the 18th-ranked Class 6A Tigers (14-2), who trailed 16-2 at the end of the first quarter.

At halftime, Frenship trailed 35-18 and was unable to recover after digging a double-digit deficit following the first eight minutes of play.

Jada Graves and Ca’Nia Mitchell each finished with eight points to diversity the the Lady Sandies on the attack.

Frenship is scheduled to take on at 9 a.m. Dec. 29 Borger to begin its run of play as part of the Chick-Fil-A large school girls bracket in the annual Caprock Classic.

Amarillo High is slated to compete Dec. 27 as part of the Mansfield Tournament in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
