Carrasco has been a dominant force for the Longhorns and part of the reason that Caprock has advanced to the area round of the Class 5A playoffs.

He was in fine form last week as he scored two goals in the Longhorns' 4-1 win over Lubbock-Cooper. Carrasco leads the Longhorns with 18 goals and is tied for second in assists with four this season.

"Aldo has been huge for us all year," Caprock coach Tim Ufford said. " He just keeps going and rarely gets tired. He definitely helps set the tone for what we want to do offensively. Last year, he burst onto the scene with the game-winning goal in our first-round playoff win and this year his game has grown as teams start to key in on him. He's always wanting to get better and learn and as a coach you can't ask for much more than that.

"Friday we didn't have a whole lot go our way offensively until late in the first half, but that didn't stop Aldo from continuously working. ... You could tell all week in practice that he was going to have a big game and even in warmups when we were talking he just had this air about him that you knew goals were coming."

There's having a good week at the plate and there's what Pendergraft turned in last week.

Pendergraft was on fire, starting with the Lady Sandies' 32-0 win over Palo Duro. She had five hits, three of them home runs and one a double, while driving in 10 runs and scoring five herself while maintaining a batting average of .833.

She didn't slow down in the big win against Lubbock Monterey — tallying two hits (a double and a home run), three RBI and scored a run while going 2-for-3 at the plate. It was an outstanding two-game stretch as she’s helped Amarillo High amass a 25-2 mark.

"Tatem has been playing well all season," Amarillo High coach Ty Hoobler said. "Since district started, she is playing at an elite level. Defensively she has always been solid, but she has really helped out her team with her offensive production. She is seeing the ball really well. Tatem is a great ball player but even better human being."
