According to the Amarillo Convention and Visitors Bureau, the designation makes Amarillo the 52nd community to be named as a Music Friendly Texas Community in the state. The recognition comes from the hard work of the Amarillo Music Friendly Advisory Board to complete the multiple steps involved in getting this recognition.

Monday's ceremony will include speakers from the Amarillo community and city leaders as the certification is presented by Chip Adams, the community outreach specialist for the Texas Music Office.

According to the Texas Music Office website, Amarillo, like previous communities, is being recognized for its network for fostering music industry development and sends a clear message to industry professionals that certified communities are serious about attracting and developing music industry growth. The program was the first in the nation to honor music related economic development in Texas cities.

Gov. Greg Abbott commented on the Office of the Texas Governor website about the designation for the city.

“Congratulations to the City of Amarillo on earning the Music Friendly Texas Certified Community designation,” Gov. Abbott said in an announcement. “Music is key to the Texas brand and is deeply rooted in the cultural traditions of our great state. Music Friendly Texas Communities certified by the Texas Music Office, work hard to attract and develop the local music industry to boost local job creation and economic growth. In fact, with support from the Texas Music Office, the Texas music industry accounted for more than 192,000 direct and indirect permanent jobs and generated more than $26 billion in economic activity statewide last year. Together, we will continue to work alongside communities in every region of our state to amplify their growth and success.”

Amarillo Mayor Cole Stanley said it was a great honor to join other communities across the state to be recognized for its burgeoning music scene.

“We are proud to now join our peers across the state as an official Music Friendly Texas Certified Community,” Stanley added.
