An Amarillo man died in a motorcycle crash in Potter County just north of the city on Sunday morning.

At about 7 a.m. Sunday, July 30, a 2002 Harley Davidson motorcycle was westbound on SL 335 in a construction zone approximately one half-mile north of Amarillo.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), this intersection is a left turn only due to the road on the west side of the intersection being closed for construction. It is marked by reflective barricades.

DPS said as the motorcycle approached the stop sign and left turn only, it began to skid, traveled into the intersection, and struck a curb on the southeast side. After striking the curb, the motorcyclist was ejected from the bike, which continued west and came to a rest on its side behind the construction barricades.

The motorcycle's driver, identified as William Fox, 48, of Amarillo, was pronounced dead at the scene by Potter County Justice of the Peace Robert Taylor. Fox was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The posted speed limit was 50 mph, and road conditions were dry and clear at the time of the accident, which remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol Troopers.
