Amarillo police: Suspect in fatal crash faces intoxication manslaughter charge

The Amarillo Police Department (APD) has identified the driver in Saturday's fatal crash as Patrick Wayne Nuner, 48. He was arrested and booked into the Potter County Detention Center on Tuesday on a charge of intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle.

The incident remains under investigation by APD's Traffic Investigation Unit.

As previously reported, Laura Sanders, 42, was taken to an area hospital where she died as result of injuries sustained in the crash in downtown Amarillo on Saturday night.

A GoFundMe has been established to help with Sanders' funeral expenses. "At the age of 42, I really had not planned on her going anywhere," said Sanders' husband, David Sanders, on the GoFundMe page. "Who would have. She was a wonderful person and more than I could have ever asked for."

Police said that at about 7:28 p.m. Saturday, an Amarillo officer witnessed the major crash at SE 3rd and Buchanan, where a GMC pickup truck driven by Nuner had been traveling eastbound on SE 3rd at a high rate of speed, approaching Buchanan, before Nuner ran the red light and struck the Ford sedan driven by Laura Sanders that was traveling northbound on Buchanan.

After the crash, Nuner was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
