AMARILLO SOD POODLES 9 SAN ANTONIO MISSIONS 5

What this game means: The Sod Poodles kept their slim playoff hopes alive with an impressive win over San Antonio on Wednesday. To make the playoffs, Amarillo would have to finish with the best winning percentage in the Texas League South. Frisco currently holds a three game advantage on Amarillo while Midland is half a game ahead, so the Soddies will need some assistance from NW Arkansas (playing Frisco this week) and Wichita (playing Midland). Amarillo is doing its part to make the postseason, however, as they beat San Antonio for the second time in as many days. Amarillo is currently 65-68 on the year.

Game highlights: San Antonio got out to a lead for the second straight night as it went up 3-0 before Amarillo exploded in the fifth inning. That was when Andy Yerzy hit a RBI double to score Juan Centeno and start the scoring. Jordan Lawlar followed that up with a two-run RBI double to score Yerzy and Caleb Roberts before Deyvison De Los Santos hit a RBI single to score Lawlar and make it 4-3 Soddies. San Antonio went up 5-4 in the seventh, but Amarillo staged a second consecutive comeback in the top of the ninth. Lawlar tied the game with a RBI single to score Roberts and De Los Santos followed that up with a three-run home run to score Lawlar, Eduardo Diaz and himself. Blaze Alexander added a solo homer for good measure to give Amarillo the win.

Stars of the game: Lawlar (3-for-4, three RBI, two runs), De Los Dantos (3-for-5, four RBI, one run) and Roberts (3-for-3, two runs) were on a different level Wednesday night. Bryce Jarvis started on the mound and gave up four hits, three earned runs, two walks and struck out three in five innings of work. Justin Lewis (1 IP, 1 H, 1 K) and Brent Teller (1 IP, 3 K) were excellent in relief work while Justin Martinez got the win after striking out four in two innings.
