Amarillo units keep vehicle fire from spreading inside garage on SE 16th

The Amarillo Fire Department (AFD) responded to a structure fire and found a burning car inside a garage early Tuesday.

Amarillo fire crews headed to a reported structure fire at 1700 SE 16th just before 3 a.m. Tuesday. The first engine arrived on the scene to a strip mall with one office area, and firefighters saw heavy smoke coming out of an open garage door.

Firefighters made entry to the garage and found a car in the work area involved in fire, AFD said. They were able to extinguish it without the flames spreading. The fire was under control by 3:38 a.m.

Fire crews then set up a fan to ventilate the structure and helped to clean some of the water from the work area.

Eight units and 26 firefighters responded to the scene. No injuries were reported.
