Amateur baseball roundup: Kimball/White Lake hands Plankinton Bankers first Pony Hills League loss of the season

Jul. 19—PLANKINTON — Caden Lenz's RBI single was enough to give Kimball/White Lake a 1-0 win in Pony Hills League amateur baseball action on Sunday.

Lenz went 1 of 3 at the plate, with his hit delivering the game's lone run in the top of the fifth. Wes Kroupa went 3 of 4 and Trent Wookey chipped in with one hit. Devin DeBoer pitched seven innings for the Nationals and he struck out nine and allowed one hit.

For Plankinton, which was 14-0 entering the game, Trevor Boyd had two hits while Preston Kristensen had one.

Josh Engquist pitched all nine innings, striking out 13 batters, but allowed one run and five hits.

Plankinton Bankers (14-1 Pony Hills League) play Plankinton Gold Sox in a Pony Hills League matchup on Tuesday. Kimball/White Lake (14-1 Pony Hills League) plays at Miller/Wessington on Tuesday in league action.

South Central 5, Four Corners 3

HAYES — South Central plated four runs in the eighth inning to secure a Pony Hills League amateur baseball win over Four Corners on Sunday.

For South Central, Triv Vosika had two hits while Jaden Frank, Blake Boes, Aaron Vomacka, Paul Taggart and Brandon McKnight each had one. Boes had two RBI while Frank and McKnight chipped with one apiece.

Nathan Hainy and Noah Hainy both went 3 of 4 for Four Corners, while Adam Kaus also chipped in with 2 RBIs.. Brad Hand, Justin Lester, Adam Kaus and Jason Overweg each had two hits.

Noah Hainy pitched 7 1/3 innings for Four Corners, allowing six hits and five runs, but struck out 11 batters.

McKnight pitched 3 1/3 innings for the Storm. He struck out three batters, but allowed one run and five hits. Aaron Sundquist pitched 2 2/3 innings, allowing four hits and one run. Paul Taggart pitched 1 2/3 innings and allowed six hits while Frank pitched 1 1/3 innings and allowed three hits and one run.

South Central (9-6 Pony Hills League) and Four Corners (10-6 Pony Hills League) will play in the District 3B tournament this week.

Colome 13, Miller/Wessington 5

MILLER — Colome scored eight runs in the last three innings to seal a 13-5 victory over Miller/Wessington in a Pony Hill amateur baseball game on Sunday.

Ethan Vobr, Sid Bice and Jackson Kinzer had two hits for the Chaos. Jason Frasch, Wyatt Cahoy, Carter Brickman and Jake Luse each had one. Frasch and Kinzer also had three RBIs while Cahoy and Luse had two. Bice chipped in with an RBI of his own.

Brickman pitched all nine innings for Colome, striking out nine, but allowed 11 hits and five runs.

For Miller/Wessington, Dustin Harvey led the team with two RBIs while Ryan Soler had one. Soler and Juan Sabalier each had two hits while Harvey, Jay Winter, Josh Koeck, Andrew Knox and Dalton Vis had one apiece.

Garrett Knox to the loss allowing six hits and five runs in 4 1/3 innings. He also struck out five batters. Harvey pitched 2 2/3 innings, allowing four runs and two hits, but struck out four.

Colome (8-8 Pony Hills League) will play in the district tournament this week. Miller/Wessington (4-11 Pony Hills League) hosts Kimball/White Lake Nationals on Tuesday.

Plankinton Gold Sox 9, Chamberlain 0

CHAMBERLAIN — Plankinton's 13 hits led them to a shutout victory over Chamberlain in a Pony Hills amateur baseball game on Tuesday.

Tye Harris and Tom Harris each had three hits while Landon Bruinsma and Andrew Becker each had two. Thomas Stange and Devin Mehlhaff chipped in with one hit each. Tom Harris had two RBIs while Becker and Tye Harris had one apiece.

Ryland DeVries pitched all nine innings, striking out eight batters, but allowed four hits.

Chamberlain (3-12 Pony Hills League) plays at Wessington Springs on Tuesday. Plankinton Gold Sox (4-11 Pony Hills League) host Plankinton Bankers in a Pony Hills League matchup on Tuesday.

Canova 7, Dell Rapids PBR 3

CANOVA — Jason Miller's three-run double in the eighth inning allowed Canova to edge Dell Rapids PBR in a Cornbelt League amateur baseball game on Sunday.

Jason Miller's three RBIs came on his lone hit of the game and an inning after Marshall Miller's pinch-hit solo home run gave the Gang a 4-3 lead. Jared Miller, Garrett Gassman and Tim Gassman each drove in a run.

Winning pitcher Kendall Gassman pitched two innings and struck out two batters. Derek Miller pitched four innings, allowing seven hits and three runs, but struck out two.

Nate McKee went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Dell Rapids, while Carter Gullickson. Riley Hoffman and Tanner Solberg had two hits apiece. Matt Gillogly surrendered three earned runs on three hits and five walks and fanned five over six innings.

Canova (18-2, 16-2 Cornbelt League) and Dell Rapids PBR compete in the Region 4B tournament, beginning July 23 in Colman.

Lennox 8, Salem 2

LENNOX — Lennox's Drew Sweeter struck out eight batters in a Cornbelt League amateur baseball win over Salem on Sunday.

Salem's Tyler Earls took the loss in this one allowing four hits and three runs, but struck out three. Isaac Anderson and Luke Loudenburg pitched two innings each. Anderson allowed three hits and five runs, but struck out two. Loundenburg struck out three batters and didn't give up a hit or run.

Ryan Pingrey went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Chris Kroupenske drove two runs for the Alpacas. Sweeter struck out eight over six innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits.

Lennox and Salem compete in the Region 4B tournament, beginning on July 23.

Menno 10, Dimock/Emery 7

MENNO — Menno and Dimock/Emery combined for 24 hits in an amateur baseball game on Sunday.

For the Raptors, Phil Johnson led the team with three hits. Sam Arend chipped in with two hits while Carter Dye, Brad Bartscher, Ben Wermers, Doug Sudbeck, Sam Priscke and Landon Sudbeck each had one.

Wermers took the loss for the Raptors as he allowed 11 hits and 10 runs in 6 1/3 innings. He also struck out three batters. Steve Ernster pitched 1 2/3 innings, allowing two hits, but struck out one.

For Menno, Spencer Schultz went 2 of 3 and had three RBIs. Caleb Preszler had three hits while Logan Klaudt, Tyler Miller and Macon Oplinger had two hits each. Dylan Lehir and Jeremy Kamred chipped in with one hit apiece.

Winning pitcher Zach Scott pitched two innings and allowed two hits. Doug Hall pitched three innings and allowed five hits and three runs. Max Schoenfeld also pitched three innings for Menno, allowing four runs and three hits, but struck out one batter.

Menno and Dimock-Emery will play in respective district tournaments this week.

Sioux Falls Flying Squirrels 7, Parkston 0

PARKSTON — The Sioux Falls Flying Squirrels shut out Parkston in an amateur baseball game on Sunday.

Jeff Harris managed two hits while Dan Bonte, Nate Doering, Jordan McKean and Dillon Stadlman each had one.

Nick Haivala took the loss for the Mudcats. He pitched five innings and allowed seven hits and five runs, but struck out two.

Parkston will play in its district tournament this week.

Crofton (Neb.) 4, Tabor 1

TABOR — Tabor allowed 10 hits in a South Central League amateur baseball loss to Crofton (Neb.).

Joey Slama, Hunter Hallock, Chris Sutera, Bryce Scieszinski, Beau Rothschadl and Zach Sutera all had one hit.

Zach Cuka took the loss in this one allowing seven hits and two runs in 5 1/3 innings. Hunter Hallock pitched 3 2/3 innings, struck out seven, but allowed three hits and two runs.
