Jun. 30—MOUNT VERNON — Ten players combined for 15 hits as Mount Vernon topped Redfield Dairy Queen 9-5 in amateur baseball action on Tuesday.

Bradley Dean finished 2 of 4, drove in two runs and hit a solo home run. He also struck out one batter, gave up one hit, one unearned run and walked three batters in four relief innings to earn the save.

Spencer Neugebauer, Briggs Havlik, Brady Albrecht and Hunter Pranger had two hits apiece. Koby Larson, Chase Hetland, Eric Giblin, Luke Tiesler and Deric Denning each had a hit. Denning drove in two runs, while he also started the first five innings.

He allowed five hits, four runs (two earned) and struck out one batter.

For Redfield Dairy Queen, Brent Osborn had two hits and drove in a run. Starter Nate Peterson gave up five hits, six earned runs and struck out one batter in five innings.

Mount Vernon (11-3) plays at Dimock-Emery on Thursday in Emery.

Canova 2, Dell Rapids Mudcats 1

CANOVA — Justin Miller's two-out, RBI single in the seventh inning propelled Canova to a Cornbelt League amateur baseball win over the Dell Rapids Mudcats on Tuesday.

Canova's Tim Gassman had two hits, while Jared Miller had Canova's other hit. Derek Miller struck out six batters, gave up five hits and one earned run in the complete-game performance.

Canova (13-2, 11-2 Cornbelt League) hosts Flandreau on July 6.
