Jul. 2—PLANKINTON — Mount Vernon/Plankinton had three hits, while Thomas Stange struck out eight batters in the 1-0 amateur baseball win over Platte Thursday.
Brentland Wenland, Rylee Deinert and Caleb Krogstand had one hit each. Grayson Hanson recorded the one hit for Platte.
Thomas Stange pitched 6 2/3 innings, striking out eight batters and allowed one hit. Drayton Priebe pitched six innings for Platte allowing three hits and one run, but struck eight batters as well.
Platte (3-3) hosts Wessington Springs/Woonsocket on Tuesday, at 7 p.m.
Aberdeen 11, Brookings 10
ABERDEEN — Brookings' late comeback was close but not enough to beat Aberdeen in an amateur baseball game on Thursday.
Brookings had six players get a hit in Aberdeen, as Jackson Krogman and Trey Svennes each had two while Jake Ammann, Ashton Witte, Josh Devine and Payton Theodosopoulos each had one. Krogman and Svennes had two RBIs apiece while Henry Hammrich and Max Kjelden had RBI each.
Daniel Messerli took the loss in this one pitching 3 1/3 innings. He struck out two, but allowed six hits and nine runs. Witte pitched 2 2/3 innings and recorded three strikeouts, but allowed two runs and three hits.
Salem 5, Flandreau 4
SALEM — Despite Flandreau having a team high 12 hits, Salem defeated the Cardinals 5-4 in an amateur baseball game on Thursday.
Jordan Gesling went 3 of 4 and had 2 RBIs for the Cardinals. Bret Severtson and Keith Cutler posted two hits apiece. Dallas Schneiderman, Brian McGuire, and Luke Gassman each had hits.
For Salem, Felix Rodriguez had two hits while Cory Struck, Jacob Vonberge, Tyler Earls, Luke Loudenburg, and Tyler Cleveland each had one hit. Cleveland led all Cubs with 3 RBIs.
Winning pitcher Earls struck out three, but allowed three runs and 10 hits.
Colome 6, Chamberlain 1
COLOME — Colome Chaos records 11 hits in an amateur baseball win over Chamberlain on Thursday.
Jackson Kinzer and Ben Connot had three hits each for Colome. Kinzer also scored two runs and had 3 RBIs. Carter Brickman had two hits and one RBI while Ethan Vobr, Braden Gardner, and Holden Thieman had one hit each.
Jake Luse, winning pitcher for the Chaos, pitched eight innings and struck out five, but allowed six hits and the one run for Chamberlain. Thieman pitched one inning and struck out two.
South Central 7, Crofton 2
SOUTH CENTRAL — South Central's 10 hits led them to an amateur baseball game win over Crofton on Thursday.
Colin Muth led the Tappers with three hits. Mason Townsend and Rand Thygeson had two hits each. Caid Koletzky, Aaron Moser, and Heath Hegge chipped in with one hit each. Derrick Nelson led all batters with two RBIs.
Winning pitcher Copper Davis struck out seven, but allowed four hits and two runs. Hegge and Thygeson pitched one inning each. Hegge struck out one batter and Thygeson struck out two.
Mount Vernon 14, Dimock/Emery 11
36 total hits as Mount Vernon defeated Dimock/Emery in an amateur baseball game at Emery Ball Park on Thursday.
Mustangs' Briggs Havlik and Raptors' Sam Michels led each team with five RBIs.
Michels also went 4 of 6 and scored two runs. Drew Kitchens had three hits for the Raptors while Payton Nash, Gene Kitchens, and Sam Arend had two each. Tyson Kayser, Landon Sudbeck, and Sam Pischke each chipped in with one hit as well.
Sam Pischke took the loss, pitching two innings for the Raptors. He committed eight errors, allowed seven hits and eight runs, but struck out two. Drew Kitchens pitched 5 1/3 innings allowing eight hits and six runs. He also struck out four batters and had four errors.
For Mount Vernon, Deric Denning went 4 of 5, had one RBI, and scored three runs. Spencer Neugebauer went 3 of 5, had one RBI, and also scored three runs. Havlik, Eric Giblin, and Koby Larson had two hits each while Chase Hetland, Bradley Dean, and Brady Albrecht chipped in with one hit each.
Denning got the win for the Mustangs as he pitched 5 1/3 innings and struck out nine batters, but allowed seven hits and three runs. Luke Tiesler pitched three innings allowing seven hits and seven runs while Koby Larson pitched one inning and allowed two hits and one run.
Mount Vernon (12-3) hosts Parkston on Thursday at Mount Vernon City Ballpark.
Plankinton 6, Four Corners 2
PLANKINTON — Plankinton (12-0) continued their undefeated season with a win over Four Corners in an amateur baseball game on Thursday
Four Corners had a game high eight hits, but also had a game high four errors. Justin Allen and Nathan Hainy had two hits, while Andrew McCloud, Justin Lester, Noah Hainy and Adam Kaus had one hit each.
For Plankinton, Chad Cody, Josh Engquist, Jon Beckman, Kyle Bruinsma, Travis Gant, Cole Knippling, and Preston Kristensen all had a hit. Engquist had two RBIs while Trevor Boyd had one.
Gant pitched six innings for Plankinton. He struck out five batters, but allowed five hits and one run. Engquist pitched three innings allowing three hits and one run, but struck out two.
Plankinton plays at Colome on Sunday, July 11.
