Custom orthotics can be a pricey solution to a painful problem.

Approximately 80 per cent of Americans have experienced some form of foot or ankle injury at some point in their lives, the most common ailment being heel pain due to plantar fasciitis.

Standing for long periods of time, wearing ill-fitting shoes and even having an abnormal walk (problem gait) can all cause severe strain on your plantar fascia (tissue connecting heel bone and toes) which can make walking even the shortest distances extremely painful.

According to 2014 survey by the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA), 57 per cent of people who experience regular foot pain say they avoid performing activities that involve walking. While another 44 per cent reveal they find exercising or even standing for long periods of time too painful.

While custom orthotics are beneficial to relieving foot pain, they can also be incredibly expensive. Luckily, a 2018 study in the British Journal of Sports Medicine revealed that over-the-counter insoles offer just as much support and relief to heel and foot pain as custom orthotics, for a significantly lower price.

If you suffer from foot pain, there are plenty of options that can help relieve symptoms without requiring you to spend hundreds of dollars.

“I have been buying my husband different types of insoles for years, trying to find something decent,” another customer writes. “We received [Physix Gear Sport insoles] and were seriously impressed with these! He works all day doing somewhat heavy duty work, and is on his feet all day. He put these in his work boots and found that he can stand for hours without pain now!”
