Amazon denies connection to Echelon Fitness’ ‘Prime Bike’

Yahoo Finance’s Akiko Fujita and Dan Howley discuss Amazon’s disavowing connection to Echelon Fitness’ ‘Prime Bike.’

Video Transcript

AKIKO FUJITA: Well, Amazon is now looking to clear the air after confusion over a new Prime exercise bike coming to market. Dan Howley is here to explain what we're talking about here. Dan, there was so much excitement yesterday, maybe some confusion too about why would Amazon actually get into competing with a Peloton, and now we know. Amazon actually had nothing to do with that.

DAN HOWLEY: Yeah, this is very fun to cover because it is just insane. Basically what happened was Echelon had announced yesterday that they were working with Amazon, specifically saying that they're working with Amazon, calling this, Amazon's first ever connected fitness product on a bike. Now the bike was going to be around $500, a little less, $499, and it was going to compete with Peloton. Now it wasn't going to have a built in screen like Peloton.

It was going to have that kind of area where you would put your tablet or laptop, most likely tablet, and then you can watch fitness instructors and follow along with them. But after it came out, it was revealed that Amazon had no idea what was going on here and they never heard of this before. So they went ahead and released another statement from themselves distancing themselves from what was going on here. So it really is just kind of a back and forth, up and down. We don't know what this thing is and if it's ever going to come out.
