If you're a Whole Foods devotee, you probably know that being an Amazon Prime customer gets you many a benefit in the store. But Amazon confirmed that it's opening up its own grocery store next year that is very much not Whole Foods.

CNET was the first to report the news after finding job listings for the new store. Amazon confirmed to CNET that it was indeed opening a new store in Los Angeles.

"Amazon is opening a grocery store in Woodland Hills in 2020," an Amazon spokesperson told them.

The job postings brand the new store as "Amazon's first grocery store."

We don't know too much about the new property, but we do know that it will not only be different from Whole Foods, but also different from Amazon's (mostly!) cash-less convenience store concept, Amazon Go, which is shown in the photo at the top of this story. The store will feature typical checkout lines rather than an app or other concept.

An Amazon spokesperson told CNET that this store won't necessarily be a Whole Foods competitor, and that in fact, Amazon will continue to invest in Whole Foods, including planning for grocery delivery with the chain.

"When it comes to grocery shopping, we know customers love choice, and this new store offers another grocery option that's distinct from Whole Foods Market, which continues to grow and remain the leader in quality natural and organic food," the Amazon spokesperson said.

While only the Woodland Hills location has been planned, the Wall Street Journal reported last month that Amazon was planning to open grocery locations in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Philadelphia, so there is a chance more are on the way.
