Amazon posts its 1st job listing for Tri-Cities warehouses. It’s a key position

Amazon is looking to hire a key position for its new Tri-Cities warehouses.

While Amazon already employs hundreds in the Tri-Cities at its Kennewick call center, this is the first job listing for two massive Pasco warehouses.

The staffing administrator position will likely be responsible for helping the company hire as many as 1,500 workers for both warehouses, which total more than 1 million square feet each.

A spokesperson for Amazon confirmed the job listing was authentic and said that while they don’t have a launch date yet for the warehouses, they remain in the company’s plans and hundreds of employees will be hired once they open.

Staffing administrator

The staffing administrator will have several key responsibilities, including setting up and hosting new hiring events and new hire orientations. They also will be responsible for helping candidates navigate the hiring process and ensuring critical hiring deadlines are met.

The job requires an associate’s degree or equivalent experience, and the ideal candidate has a background in staffing, hospitality, human resources or similar fields.

The pay range, dependent on the market, experience and other facts, is listed at $31,200 to $64,500 a year.

The job listing said the staffing administrator will “ ... often serve as the ‘face’ of Amazon for our candidates.’”

Pasco warehouses

The Pasco warehouses were initially expected to open last fall, but last summer were among more than a dozen projects delayed by the retail giant after the company announced it was slowing its build-out and logistics growth after its slowest quarter in nearly 20 years, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Construction seems to be nearly finished at the warehouses, with only occasional new permit requests filed since last fall. The most recent permit was for a canopy in the outside smoking area.

The two Tri-Cities warehouses are nearly the same size but will be much different because of the types of products each is planned to house.

They are expected to put a combined 2,800 vehicles on roadways daily in the Tri-Cities. Most of the traffic will be from employees, with a total of about 650 trucks in and out of the warehouses.

The eastern warehouse — or Project Oyster at 1361 S. Road 40 East — sits on 162 acres and will handle smaller goods such as household items, books, toys and technology. Oyster is the larger of the two projects. It isn’t just a slightly larger footprint though, the inside will have an additional 252,000 square feet of space on a mezzanine level.

The western warehouse, which is directly across the street at 1202 S. Road 40 East, is known as Project Pearl. It sits on 104 acres. It will hold larger items such as furniture, outdoor equipment, as well as large packages of paper goods and pet supplies.

While those are both certainly large warehouses, even combined they don’t come close to some of Amazon’s largest facilities.

An under-construction warehouse in Ontario, Calif., will clock in at 4.1 million square feet. Their largest operating warehouse is 3.6 million square feet in Tennessee.
