Amazon preparing to open new facility near New Castle

Amazon will soon open another Delaware facility, a 1.3-million-square-foot fulfillment center near New Castle.

The new facility, known in Amazon parlance as ILG1, is off Route 13 at Federal School Lane. Amazon fulfillment centers of its size typically employ around 1,000 people.

An Amazon spokesperson declined to share an opening date. The company's hiring website shows available shifts beginning Dec. 5.

Earlier this year, Amazon opened a 3.8-million-square-foot robotics fulfillment center at the site of the former GM plant near Newport. It's the largest of several facilities planned or opened in Delaware, joining the long-time Middletown and New Castle fulfillment centers.

In the past two years, Amazon has nearly doubled its U.S. fulfillment network.

Dollar General submits plan for new store

Dollar General submitted a plan in mid-November to New Castle County for a new store at South Dupont Parkway and Black Diamond Road. The site is near Helen's Sausage House.

Mixed-use development proposed in Milton

RJL Associates, a Virginia-based developer, has plans for a mixed-use development at Federal and Union streets in Milton.

Their plan includes a three-story building with residential units and commercial space. The Cape Gazette first reported the development proposal.
