Amazon removes eye drops from platform after warning letter from FDA

Amazon is in the process of removing seven eye drops from its platform following a warning letter from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The FDA said the “new drugs” pose a greater risk of harm to users because the route of administration bypasses some of the body’s natural defenses and that they are not recognized as safe and effective for their claimed uses.

The eye drops flagged in the letter to Amazon include Similasan Pink Eye Relief, Can-C Eye Drops, Optique 1 Eye Drops and OcluMed Eye Drops, among others.

The seven drops are not the same drops that were recalled by the FDA in October that have a potential risk of eye infection that could lead to partial vision loss or complete blindness.
