Arrest made in abduction of 4-year-old boy, mother in Rochester. The latest

UPDATE - A 24-year-old man has been charged in the abduction of a Rochester boy and mother. Daniel Ponder was charged with kidnapping, burglary, assault, possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child in connection to the abduction early Saturday morning, according to Rochester police.

The United States Marshal’s Task Force located Ponder on Wellington Avenue last night, police said. Following a brief foot chase, Ponder was taken into custody, police said. He was then taken to the Monroe County Jail, where he is currently being held. Ponder is expected to be arraigned in Rochester City Court this morning.

No other details have been released. The investigation is ongoing, police said.

UPDATE - Around 3 p.m. on Saturday, investigators received information that the child was at a house on Reynolds Street in the city of Rochester, according to Rochester police. Officers responded and safely located both 4-year-old Michael Williams III and his mother, Jessica Sanchez-Reyes. The investigation into the abduction and identifying the suspect(s) involved is ongoing, police said.

Anyone with information is being asked to call 911.

UPDATE - Rochester police have released more details on the Saturday morning abduction of Michael Williams III. According to a statement, at 1:30 a.m., officers responded to the 400 block of Lake Avenue for 911 calls reporting a male being chased. Police officials said an investigation discovered that an altercation inside 170 Fulton Ave. caused a male victim to flee as someone shot at him. When the victim and officers returned to the house, they found that 4-year-old Michael Williams III and his mother, Jessica Sanchez-Reyes, were missing from the location. SWAT was activated, and a search warrant was executed at a house on Kenwood Avenue in southwest Rochester to locate the child and his mother, but the search was unsuccessful. Both remain missing.

ROCHESTER, NY - The Rochester Police Department has activated the New York State Amber Alert and is investigating a child abduction that occurred early Saturday morning at approximately 1:30 a.m.

According to the police, the child, Michael Williams III, was taken from 170 Fulton Ave. in Rochester.

Michael is a four-year-old Black male, with brown hair and brown eyes. He is about 3 feet 3 inches tall and weighs approximately 80 pounds. The child was last seen wearing a Paw Patrol T-shirt, gray, and black pajama pants.

The police believe that the child and his mother, Jessica M. Sanchez-Reyes, were taken under circumstances that lead them to believe that they are in imminent danger of serious harm and/or death.

Authorities are urging anyone with information on this abduction to call the Rochester Police Department at (866) N Y S-AMBER or dial 911 to provide information on a report or sighting.
