Amber Alert for 8-year-old girl discontinued

TAYLOR, Texas (KXAN) – On Thursday, law enforcement provided more details after an Amber Alert was issued for an 8-year-old who was later found.

Texas DPS Safety Texas Rangers, the FBI and the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office found the 8-year-old and determined after that the child was not abducted and had left her home on her own, WCSO said in a news release Thursday.

This comes after an Amber Alert was discontinued for the child.

Officials said the breakthrough for the child’s whereabouts happened when a “vigilant rancher” saw the child in a field about two miles from her home. Then, the rancher called 911 to report it.

“The circumstances surrounding the runaway led us to seek assistance from our law enforcement partners. We approach matters involving missing children with utmost seriousness, erring on the side of caution. I extend my heartfelt thanks to the community, and particularly to the observant rancher, for their support throughout this incident,” WCSO Commander John Foster said in the release.
