Amber Quinn receives probation for auto shop thefts

COSHOCTON − A Coshocton woman accused of robbing auto shops was sentenced this week in Coshocton County Common Pleas Court by Judge Robert Batchelor.

Amber D. Quinn, 37, was indicted in August with two counts of breaking and entering, fifth-degree felonies, three counts of grand theft of a motor vehicle, fourth-degree felonies, two counts of safecracking, fourth-degree felonies, possession of criminal tools, a fifth-degree felony, and tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony. According to the indictment the criminal tools in question were a pry bar and sheet.

The Coshocton County Sheriff's Office said Quinn and James C.E. Fisher broke into Rick's Auto Sales and Repair on South Second Street on May 16. Taken were a 2015 GMC Arcadia and a 2009 Honda Accord. On Aug. 4 they broke into Coshocton City Tire on Pine Street and took a 2016 Chevy Tahoe. Fischer was indicted on the same charges as Quinn and is set for a jury trial on Feb. 22.

Quinn entered guilty pleas to the charges on Nov. 15. The Coshocton County Prosecutor's Office as part of the plea deal didn't oppose a pre-sentencing investigation and agreed to recommend community control sanctions that included a community based correctional facility program. Prosecutor Jason Given said the recommendation was based on Quinn's lack of a criminal history and the charges were non-violent crimes.

Neither Quinn no attorney Marie Seiber spoke in court on the matter.

Batchelor gave Quinn three years of community control sanctions and orders to complete a rehabilitation program at STAR Community Justice Center in Franklin Furnace up to 108 days. Upon completion of the program, she will be added to the court's drug recovery program and must participate in any recommended outpatient treatment programs.

Quinn was also ordered to have no contact with the victims of the offenses or Fischer. She must obtain a GED and driver's license within one year. This was along with other standard terms and conditions.

Any violation of her probation specifications could result in her being given prison time for the original charges. This could be up to 12 months for each of the fifth-degree felonies, up to 18 month for the fourth-degree felonies and up to 30 months for the third-degree felony.
