Ambridge couple's Christmas lights raise $100,000 for St. Jude's cancer research

AMBRIDGE ― A 15-year journey of hope hit its pinnacle goal this holiday season, when Bob and Denise Dunn reached the $100,000 mark to help in the fight against children’s cancer at St. Jude’s.

Every year since 2008, the Dunns have decked the halls and exterior of their Ambridge home, spending countless hours of preparation. Their house, at 217 Maplewood Drive, gets illuminated with more than 20,000 lights, plus festive inflatables and decorations of every size and shape.

On holiday nights through Jan. 6, “Uncle Bob” and Denise dress as Santa & Mrs. Claus, greeting visitors outside their must-see home, spreading holiday cheer while collecting donations for St. Jude’s Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

That generosity from curious visitors culminated in the $100,000 goal the couple planned to celebrate with fireworks. The highest annual collection was $12,300,

"We would like to thank everybody who has donated and stopped by," Bob Dunn said. "I hope to see everyone again next year as we will continue raising money for St. Jude's. It makes me happy that we can bring hope and happiness to people every year.  You have to see it, to believe it.  Thank you again for you continued support."

Bob and Denise Dunn also visit children of The Bradley Center each year, where Bob’s niece Amy Schaffer serves as a volunteer and trustee. Located in Robinson Township, the Bradley Center helps children and teens who experience trauma, mental illness and behavioral challenges.
