American Airlines adds nonstop Charlotte flight to popular Canadian city for first time

American Airlines is adding a new destination for Charlotte travelers: Vancouver.

Nonstop flights from Charlotte to Vancouver will begin on June 5, 2024, the airline said Thursday.

What’s more, American Airlines said the flight between Charlotte Douglas International Airport and Vancouver International Airport will be the only nonstop service between North Carolina and British Columbia, Canada.

Tickets will go on sale for the Vancouver flight starting Monday, according to the airline. It did not say what the average ticket price for the nonstop flight would be.

According to airline’s website, prices for round-trip Vancouver tickets leaving June 5 and returning to Charlotte on June 12 that had one or more layovers was between $767 to $1,453 in the main cabin.

Other changes on American Airlines routes from Charlotte

American Airlines also has announced changes to other international routes this year from CLT.

In April, for instance, the airline said it was offering year-round flights from Charlotte to Madrid on a route that previously had been limited to seasonal summer travel. American also added a third daily flight from Charlotte to London-Heathrow around that time.

And seasonal flights from Charlotte to Dublin will begin in March instead of May last year.

Charlotte has one of the world’s busiest airports and is the second largest hub for American Airlines in the U.S. accounting for about 90% of all flights out of the airport.

CLT ranked as the seventh-busiest airport worldwide for arrivals and departures, according to the Airport Council International’s preliminary rankings for 2022. Last year, the airport handled 505,589 arrivals and departures and had more than 47 million passengers.

So far this year, American Airlines has announced more than 45 new routes to grow its network. This includes seven new routes going to coastal places in New England and Nova Scotia the airline said Thursday.
