American Airlines is expanding its South Florida workforce starting with 700 open positions in the customer service and reservations departments.
There are 600 spots open for reservation representatives, which are remote positions that require applicants live within a 75-mile radius of Miami International Airport.
Starting pay is $13.05 an hour, with annual raises and opportunities for bonuses. The other 100 new jobs will be in-person customer service representatives at MIA. There are full-time and part-time opportunities.
American Airlines is MIA’s largest carrier, operating 335 daily flights to more than 140 destinations. With 13,500 locally based employees, AA is Miami-Dade County’s third-largest employer. In 2022, the airline has hired 2,000 people and says it’s employing more people in the Miami area than before the pandemic.
“As Miami’s hometown airline, we are proud to continue to build on our more than 30-year commitment to our community by creating more jobs in South Florida,” said Juan Carlos Liscano, the vice president of Miami hub operations for AA. “American plays a vital role in the success of Miami-Dade’s travel and tourism industry and we look forward to even more growth in 2023 and beyond.”
American Airlines’ growing South Florida workforce is an outgrowth of Miami’s booming tourism industry following pandemic lockdowns. But that spike in visitors has created huge crowds and long lines for tourists and locals, causing a significant drop in customer satisfaction in 2022.
AA said that new hires will undergo paid training in January 2023, and will immediately qualify for travel and health benefits. Applicants must be over 18 and hold a high school diploma, GED or an international equivalent.
