An American Airlines plane had a mechanical issue, and Hillary Clinton was onboard

An American Airlines flight, which had former Secretary of State and presidential candidate Hillary Clinton aboard, needed to return to its gate in New York following a mechanical issue on Sunday afternoon.

American flight 2144, which was set to depart from New York's LaGuardia airport and head to Washington, D.C.'s Reagan National airport, made a return to its gate around 3:15 EST on Sunday "due to a mechanical issue," American Airlines spokesman Ross Feinstein told USA TODAY in a statement. Passengers ultimately boarded a different aircraft. Flight tracking service FlightAware indicates the plane left at 5:07 and reached Washington at 6:05. – an hour and 41 minutes after its scheduled arrival.

The aircraft's mechanical issue was not reported to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and there wasn't any emergency response, Steve Coleman, the deputy director of media at the Port Authority, told USA TODAY.
