An American expat was charged with the murder of his girlfriend in the Philippines after cops found her body in a 50-gallon drum on Tuesday, police said.

William Worth, 71, is accused of killing Mila Loslos, 48, at their home in Bacoor, according to the Philippine news outlet Rappler. Loslos’ son, Nino Jay Loslos, reported his mother missing after visiting the home, Rappler reported. He said he last saw her alive on May 5.

The younger Loslos reported a curious, terrible smell coming from the couple’s home. He told police that when he asked for his mother, Worth claimed he didn’t know where she was.

Investigators arrived and found Loslos’ body inside a plastic garbage bag, which had been sealed by duct tape and placed in the drum, according to Rappler. Worth was arrested on the scene around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Officers found three knives and nylon rope in the home. They said it appeared Loslos had been dead for two to three days by the time she was found.

Police believe Worth and Loslos had an argument after Worth found out that Loslos also had a husband and child, the Manila Bulletin reported.

Cops said Loslos slipped and fell, then Worth strangled her to death, according to the outlet. Officers said Worth appeared to have wounds across his body as well.

“We are aware of this case. Due to U.S. Privacy Act considerations, we cannot provide any further information,” the U.S. Embassy in Manila told Agence France-Presse.

Worth is the first American accused of murder in the Philippines since Joseph Scott Pemberton, a U.S. Marine, was convicted of killing transgender woman Jennifer Laude in 2014. Pemberton was sentenced to 6-10 years in prison, then released early in 2020 by the country’s then-leader Rodrigo Duterte.
