HOLLAND — A father and son team has opened a new, state-of-the-art healthcare facility in Holland, which will serve Ottawa and Allegan counties.

The new American Family Care Holland facility is owed and operated by Brian and Christian Pelke and will provide accessible primary care, urgent care and occupational medicine. It's open seven days a week and is located at 91 Douglas Ave., Suite 110, across from D&W Fresh Market.

“I’m thrilled to expand access to quality healthcare with this family-run business,” Brian Pelke said. “We’re committed to treating our patients like family. With a focus on exceptional patient experiences and compassionate care, we aim to make AFC Holland a trusted healthcare destination in the area.”

The new facility aims to meet the community’s needs by offering seven exam rooms, on-site lab testing and vaccinations, digital X-ray equipment that allows staff to take and read X-rays in minutes, occupational health exams and workers’ compensation cases and extended hours seven days a week.

For Brian and Christian, they are putting an emphasis on reaching out to the community. They've visited local manufacturers and schools to learn about their most pressing needs and how the AFC Holland can best serve the community.

"Before I even signed the lease here, I went to the chamber of commerce and had a conversation with them just to learn more about the needs of the community," Brian Pelke said.

Brian Pelke brings a diverse background to the table having spent 33 years in manufacturing, developing significant safety management expertise. He also spent 15 years as the president of a manufacturing company.

He plans to use that experience to create a team that will better serve employers in the Holland community.

Christian Pelke will serve as the business development manager for AFC Holland, having most recently spent time as a human resources generalist for Sherwin-Williams.

Along with the father-son tandem, Brian said he also has a daughter who helped open the center and will work for the business in the future.

Ultimately, Brian said the most important aspect is the team that is in place.

“Our exceptional team is dedicated to providing quality healthcare to the community and assisting local companies with pre-employment physicals, workers’ compensation case management and vaccinations,” he said.

Another area where AFC Holland will look to serve the community is through providing a diverse medical team that includes hiring providers with more than 20 years of experience and having Spanish speakers on staff.

“We’ve heard from individuals in the community that they’ve had to travel long distances to seek medical care from those that speak their native language,” said Robert Hubers, AFC Holland’s medical director. “At AFC Holland, we’re delighted to have a team that can communicate effectively in Spanish and provide compassionate care to all our patients.”
