'American Idol' alum Antonella Barba back in jail after father resigns as custodian

Former "American Idol" star Antonella Barba, awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to dealing fentanyl, is back in jail after her father resigned as her custodian, according to court records.

Barba was taken into custody on Friday in Norfolk, Virginia. She had been out on a $10,000 unsecured bond.

United States Magistrate Judge Lawrence R. Leonard signed an order Tuesday, saying that Vincenzo told a probation officer Sept. 5 that he wanted to resign.

"Absent a third-party custodian, defendant cannot meet her conditions of release," Leonard wrote.

Barba was ordered to live at her parents' home in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, when she was released in February.

Her attorney, Randall Leeman, said Barba voluntarily turned herself in to authorities to begin her sentence, which has yet to be handed down.

Barba and her family considered having a person other than her father take custody of her but that arrangement did not work out, Leeman said.

Asked if a family dispute arose that led to that plan, Leeman said, "I wouldn't call it a dispute, I'd call it a discussion."

She is being held at Western Tidewater Regional Jail in Suffolk, Viginia, which contracts with the federal government to take in prisoners.

She is scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 21 in U.S. District Court in Norfolk.
