Just when we thought that American Idol winner Noah Thompson was planning a brief hiatus, he decided to throw us a surprise curveball. And how did he do this, exactly? By getting onstage to perform at his first post-competition concert.

Over the weekend, the "One Day Tonight" musician revealed that he and fellow American Idol contestant HunterGirl were asked by country singer Chayce Beckham to make a surprise appearance during his set at this year's CMA Fest in Nashville. After fans realized what was happening, they got super excited to hear them perform Chayce's hit single "23."

But that wasn't all the surprises Noah had in store for his followers. While he didn't necessarily perform any new material, he did take the time to share a snippet of his recent performance with Chayce, just so fans can have something to look forward to while he's busy in the recording studio.

"Thanks @chaycebeckhammusic for bringing @huntergirlmusic and I out for your show man!" the 20-year-old star captioned a series of photos on Instagram. "Singing 23 with you was a dream come true bro!"

While Noah singing at CMA Fest certainly came as a shock to attendees, longtime fans were not surprised to see him return to the stage so quickly. After all, he did say that he did have post-reality TV plans before jumping straight into creating new music. "I'm looking forward to getting out and playing shows and meeting people and writing songs — that's what I'm working on right now," he told the Herald Dispatch in early June. "I'm not saying I'm a good songwriter or anything, but you got to start somewhere."

Fortunately, Noah didn't disappoint, and followers quickly congratulated the country artist on his first career venture away from all the Idol voters. "Okay what cannot believe i missed this!" another affectionately wrote. And one fan just had one request for Noah: "So very excited for you. Looking forward to watching your career blossom. Looking forward to seeing you in the Pacific Northwest, PLEASE!!!!😍😍"

Keep on shining, Noah!
