American Legion Riders rally support with 'Camo for a Cause'

Apr. 15—DICKINSON — The American Legion Riders, a group known for their commitment to supporting veterans, are gearing up for their upcoming event, Camo for a Cause, organized by Edward Dick. The event, scheduled for April 20, 2024 at the Eagles Club in Dickinson, is set to raise funds for veterans and their families in southwest North Dakota.

District eight of the American Legion Riders has a strong track record of support, having donated over $125,000 to veterans and their families since 2017. The Riders, many of whom are veterans themselves, understand the challenges faced by those who have served their country.

Camo for a Cause aims to continue this support by providing various necessities to veterans, including food, toiletries, and assistance with housing needs. Edward Dick, reflecting on the event, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from the community of Dickinson, stating, "The populace of Dickinson has been very, very supportive."

The event, which will feature a social, dinner, silent auction from 5-7 p.m., followed by a live auction from 7-9 p.m., has garnered significant attention and backing from the local community. Donations for the event can be made in the form of monetary contributions or by providing items for the silent and live auctions.

LoAnn Dick emphasized the importance of ensuring that all veterans have a place to live, stating, "We try to make sure all veterans have a place to live; this is a horrible place to be homeless." The efforts of Camo for a Cause, in collaboration with the American Legion Riders, aim to address such pressing needs within the local veteran community.

While some donations have been directed to other areas, Edward Dick noted that the majority of contributions stay within the local community. This underscores the commitment of Camo for a Cause to directly impact the lives of veterans in southwest North Dakota.

As preparations for the event continue, the American Legion Riders and their supporters remain steadfast in their mission to support and uplift veterans and their families, embodying the spirit of camaraderie and service that defines their organization.
