The hosts of The History Channel's "American Pickers" − Mike Wolfe and his brother Robbie − are returning to Vermont in August to search for antique treasures, and film at least one episode of the popular show that launched in 2010.

"American Pickers" came to Vermont in 2016, 2018 and 2020 to film episodes as well. Producer Meredith Ball said Thursday the Wolfe brothers have spent years traveling across the United States in search of unique antiques, pre-dating the creation of the show on The History Channel.

"Their goal is to not only dive into the history of the items and collectors, but also to buy items," Ball said.

If a collector agrees to sell, the Wolfe brothers might keep the item for their own collection of antiques, or they might resell it in one of their two Antique Archeology stores, in Le Claire, Iowa, which opened in 2000, and Nashville, Tennessee, which opened in 2011.

Private antique collections only please, no flea markets

The Wolfe brothers do not frequent antique stores, malls, flea markets, museums, auctions, businesses, or "anything open to the public," but focus strictly on private collections, according to Ball.

With that in mind, "American Pickers" is looking to find the most historically significant or rare antiques hiding away in private hands in Vermont.

"We're looking for leads throughout the state, specifically interesting characters with fascinating items," Ball said. "The way we find people and collections for our show is through spreading the word far and wide so that people know we're coming to town."

Ball and her team compile a "brief history" of the items in a collection being considered for the show, and ask the collectors what they would be willing to sell. They also ask for photos of the items, which will be used by the Wolfe brothers to decide which collections they're interested in "picking."

"We schedule a day with the collector and handle everything − the filming and anything they buy − in the course of one day," Ball said.

Ball was unsure of how long "American Pickers" will be in Vermont filming in August, but said it could be anywhere from one to two weeks.

"Say we find a good number of collectors in Vermont and we can make multiple episodes we would prefer that route," Ball said. "Right now we're looking at one episode, at least one."
