American Red Cross to install free smoke alarms Saturday, Oct. 28

Our Wichita Falls area readers reflect many diverse opinions and viewpoints. Letters to the Editor are written by members of our local community and reflect their personal beliefs, not those of the Times Record News. Home fires are the biggest disaster threat in our community and the majority of the crises that the American Red Cross Texas Big Country Chapter responds to each year. In 2022, we responded to more than 40 home fires in Wichita Falls and provided recovery support to more than 110 people affected by these emergencies.

To help neighbors vulnerable to home fires, Red Cross volunteers will canvass neighborhoods in Wichita Falls on Saturday, October 28, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to install free smoke alarms, replace batteries in existing alarms and help families create home fire escape plans.

Services are free and available for all people in need. Sound the Alarm events are part of our national Home Fire Campaign, which has already helped save more than 1,900 lives across the country since launching in 2014 to reduce fire deaths and injuries with partners.

Families in need are counting on our community’s support to help stay safe. Please join us to Sound the Alarm about home fire safety and save lives by visiting RedCross.org/WichitaFalls to volunteer or make a donation to support our lifesaving services.
