Car hits, seriously injures Orlando man; part of Americana Boulevard shut down

A 25-year-old Orlando man trying to cross an intersection was seriously injured Thursday morning when a car hit him in south Orange County.

The crash was reported at 6:30 a.m. at the intersection of Americana Boulevard and Texas Avenue, about a mile east of the Mall at Millenia, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Eastbound Americana Boulevard between south Texas Avenue and San Antonio Avenue is temporarily closed, according to Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

A 34-year-old woman of Orlando was driving a sedan east on Americana and swerved into the right lane when a vehicle stopped at the Texas Avenue intersection for a pedestrian man attempting to cross on the marked crosswalk, said FHP’s Lt. Kim Montes.

The sedan driver attempted to swerve back into the left lane but hit the man in the process, Montes said.

After the collision, a school bus, driven by a 45-year-old woman of Orlando, swerved to the right to avoid the man, Montes said.

The man was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

No other injuries were reported.

Troopers are examining school bus dashcam to see if the bus hit the man, as well.

Charges are pending against the 34-year-old woman.
