Americans think CEO pay is too high - poll

STORY: The discontent about boardroom remuneration is not split along political lines

Research nonprofit Just Capital commissioned the survey of 1,037 in February 2022

81% of Democrats and 71% of Republicans said CEOs of America's largest companies are paid 'too much'

The result shows the challenge for boards to balance compensation for leaders and workers

Median pay for the CEOs of 100 top U.S. firms rose 31% in 2021 to a record $20mln

The ratio of CEO pay to median workers' pay meanwhile rose to 254:1 from 238:1

Just Capital also found broad concern that the wealth gaps could lead to social problems

81% said large companies should provide basic security to their lowest-paid workers

19% said firms are not responsible for keeping workers out of poverty
