'America's Got Talent' Is Not Returning to NBC for a Few Weeks

America’s Got Talent fans, your favorite competition show will be right back.

Last week, judges Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel and Sofía Vergara saw the remaining season 16 hopefuls grace the AGT stage and put on auditions of a lifetime. Now, a select group of incredibly talented performers is one step closer to becoming the next winner. But before contestants get a chance to put on bigger and better acts in the live episodes, there is going to be a slight interruption.

Viewers may have caught the announcement made by host Terry Crews last Tuesday in the beginning of the episode. “AGT fam, today is the last day of auditions and then next week it’s the Olympics,” he said. “But then we are back at the Dolby with the live shows in Hollywood.”

That’s right — NBC is the official broadcast network for the Tokyo Summer Olympics. After the Summer Games were postponed due to the international impact of the coronavirus pandemic, the event that traditionally happens every four years is here once again. America's Got Talent took a similar break throughout the month of August in 2016 for the Rio Olympics.

When will America’s Got Talent season 16 return in 2021?

America’s Got Talent will come back to NBC with a new episode on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at 8 p.m. ET. Coverage for the Tokyo Summer Olympics began on Friday, July 23 and will run through Sunday, August 8. In total, there will be 399 events spanning over two weeks.

Two days after the Summer Games conclude, AGT will come back with a new episode during its usual Tuesday night slot. In the meantime, you can tune into the highly anticipated Tokyo events, which began with the opening ceremony last Friday. Team U.S.A. will feature top athletes from an array of sports, including standout gymnast Simone Biles and soccer player Alex Morgan.
