Mzansi Youth Choir, a group of singers from South Africa, earned the first-ever Audience Golden Buzzer during the season 18 premiere for their rendition of "It's Okay," a song by late "AGT" season 16 contestant Nightbirde.

Nightbirde, born Jane Marczewski in Zanesville, Ohio, told the audience during her 2021 audition she "had some cancer in my lungs, spine and my liver."

Her performance and inspirational message won over the audience and judge Simon Cowell, who gave her his Golden Buzzer that season. She advanced straight to the live show round, but withdrew from the series weeks later because her health had taken a "turn for the worse," she announced on social media.

After a four-year battle with cancer, Nightbirde died in February 2022. She was 31 years old.
