The Americas Rallycross Series announced in a press release today it will not continue operations beyond the end of the 2019 season. The decision to discontinue the series came after organizers failed to secure long-term sponsorship.

"After consultation with a wide group of stakeholders and interested parties, IMG [the series organizers] has taken the difficult decision to not extend the Americas Rallycross Championship beyond the 2019 season," the release read.

"Over the past few months, IMG had been exploring a number of options with commercial partners to secure the long-term future of the championship but, unfortunately, none of those options came to fruition."

The Americas Rallycross Series, or ARX, was formed out of the ashes of the Redbull Global Rallycross championship, which ceased operations in April 2018. It held six events this year, including one in Austin, one in Canada, and two at Mid-Ohio.

Ex-Formula 1 driver Scott Speed took the championship's first title in 2018 behind the wheel of an Andretti-backed VW Beetle. He switched to Subaru for the 2019 season, though had to withdraw from the final two events after breaking his back in a crash at a Nitro Circus Rallycross event this summer. As Autosport points out, that event, ironically, is now the only top-level rallycross event left in America.
