This upcoming year is sure to be a doozy for legal coverage in the United States. Not only has the Supreme Court itself demanded more attention in recent years, between its unprecedented decisions and its ethics scandals, but the upcoming year will also bring a series of criminal trials against a former president—who is running for office once again.

That’s why we’re thrilled to announce that our legal podcast Amicus, hosted by the one and only Dahlia Lithwick, is going weekly. Regular Amicus listeners  may have noticed that, because of the onslaught of news, the show has already been approaching a weekly cadence, but we’ve decided to make it official.

“There is just too much news to mash into a show that comes out every other week,” Lithwick said. “So we are going to bring you, our listeners, a fresh baked episode every single Saturday from now on. It’s really a question of trying to get our heads around the sheer volume of legal news that is flying at us.”

Slate’s jurisprudence team has been on a years-long endeavor to improve coverage of the courts, laid out particularly well by our Disorder in the Courts package from the end of last term. A weekly Amicus episode is a big part of that strategy. “We pledged…[to] cover the Court in ways that kind of scoop up all the material that sometimes gets left off the Supreme Court beat and sort of sits on the side of the trail,” Lithwick said. “So we want to scoop up the judicial conduct and the cases the court doesn’t take and the fallout from cases that made headlines one time in June, made headlines one time in June and then fell off the radar.”

Listeners can expect more deep reporting on the Supreme Court’s rulings and the people affected by those decisions, dedicated coverage of the upcoming Trump trials, and as always, plenty of Slate Plus segments where Lithwick catches up with colleague Mark Joseph Stern, freshly back from paternity leave.

“I think it is brilliant. I think it is frankly overdue,” Stern said of the change.  “Everyone I know and everyone I have ever met gives me the same note, which is more Dahlia. Double the Dahlia probably won’t be enough. I’m thinking triple, I’m thinking quadruple, but this is a really good start and I’m just honored to be on this ride with you as always.”
