Rappers Megan Thee Stallion and Nicki Minaj have made headlines for nearly a week now, and the public is scrambling to keep up with the drama. Following Megan's tour announcement, fans are wondering if the Houston-born singer will make an appearance in Texas.

Here's a timeline of the recent beef between the celebrities.

Friday, Jan. 26: Megan Thee Stallion releases "Hiss"

Megan, a globally recognized rapper born in San Antonio, captured the public's attention when she dropped a new song called "Hiss." Released independently by Hot Girl Productions, it is the second single from her soon-to-be-released third studio album. One particular line in the first verse has sparked quite a bit of debate among those both inside and outside the music industry.

Megan raps that people aren't "mad at Megan," but "mad at Megan's law." She continues, "I don't really know what the problem is, but I guarantee y'all don't want me to start."

Many analysts quickly interpreted the line. Megan's Law is a federal law that requires registered sex offenders to provide their personal information to local law enforcement agencies. It was named in memory of Megan Kanka, a seven-year-old who was raped and murdered by her neighbor who was a convicted sex offender in 1994.

The reference to Megan's Law was the closest the rapper came to revealing the subject of the song. However, Queen of Rap, Nicki Minaj, and many of her fans saw this as a pointed attack. Nicki is married to Kenneth Petty, a registered sex offender.

Petty was sentenced to probation and house arrest for failing to register as a sex offender in California. Petty is a registered Level 2 sex offender on New York State’s Sex Offender Registry. In April 1995, Petty was convicted of attempted first-degree rape in connection with a 1994 assault that occurred when both he and the victim were 16. He used a knife or cutting instrument during the commission of the crime, according to the registry.

In January 2020, Minaj's brother Jelani Maraj was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for repeatedly raping an 11-year-old girl at his Long Island, New York, home. Maraj's lawyers said the rape allegations were created by the girl's mother as part of a scheme to get Nicki Minaj to pay $25 million in hush money.

Friday, Jan. 26: Nicki Minaj drops "Big Foot"

Amid speculations regarding the subject of "Hiss," Nicki decided to clap back. The same day Megan released the song, Nicki took to Instagram Live and X, formerly known as Twitter, to announce a song of her own. The title? "Big Foot."

Nicki left nothing up for debate as she rapped about a woman "talkin' 'bout Megan's law." She also describes Megan: "She like six foot, I call her Big Foot."

Megan, with a height of 5' 10", was shot in the foot by fellow rapper Tory Lanez in July 2020. In 2023, Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison after Megan testified in court, according to CBS News.

And still, Nicki didn't stop there. In a single line, the "Anaconda" artist accused Megan of lying about the shooting while making a dig at Megan's mother, Holly Thomas, who died from brain cancer in 2019.

"Swearin' on your dead mother when you lie," Nicki raps. Her fans, known as "Barbz," revealed the location of Thomas's grave. Texas law enforcement has since increased security for the cemetery as Nicki's fans on X allude to desecrating the grave, according to TMZ.

Tuesday, Jan. 30: Megan announces "Hot Girl Summer Tour"

During an appearance on Good Morning America, Megan uncovered plans for a "Hot Girl Summer Tour." The tour will begin — you guessed it — this summer.

The exact dates and stops for the tour remain unknown, Rolling Stone reports. Fans may find irony in the tour's name, which shares a name with a 2019 song Megan released in collaboration with Nicki.

USA TODAY reporter Jay Stahl contributed to this report.
