Swan mourning friend’s death delays 23 trains in Germany
Lucky it didn’t land in front of an A train.
A swan in Germany delayed 23 trains for almost an hour on Dec. 23 after its mate died on the tracks, the Guardian reported. Police revealed the reason for the delay Monday.
The swan and its friend were flying near Fuldatal in central Germany when the partner flew into power cables above the train track and died, according to the Guardian. Refusing to continue without his pal, the other swan sat on the tracks for 50 minutes.
The mourning swan resisted initial attempts to move it, Agence France-Presse reported. Firefighters brought in special equipment to remove the swan and take it to the nearby Fulda River.
Swans are known to mourn the deaths of their companions.
