"I often get upgraded to first class on domestic flights thanks to my Delta status but this was my first time flying first class internationally where you get the 'real' business class experience. So that was one of the reasons why I was particularly excited about this flight and the seat that I had purchased and picked in advance."

I asked to see the alternative on the seat map. It was still first class but all the way in the back. I kindly said that I'd rather keep the seat I selected and she didn't insist. They went ahead and found another resolution pretty quickly," she explained.

"I think the {TikTok} audio 'fuck them kids and fuck you too' is funny and that's why I thought it was relevant to this situation. But, in all honesty, I have switched my seat with people in the past (I even gave up an extra leg seat to a REALLY tall man in the past in exchange for a regular seat — and I did end up regretting that decision the following 10 hours when I was curled up in the smaller space)," she added.

So, I think it's okay as long as no fuss is made if people say 'no.' Saying no is not necessarily a lack of empathy. You can be kind and empathetic and still choose not to sacrifice your own experience and comfort for someone else's. I also think that parents should plan to sit together when they fly with their kids," she concluded.
