Amtrak to offer third daily train from Norfolk, restore train from Newport News

Amtrak’s Northeast Regional route is adding a third daily departure from Norfolk starting July 12.

The train will depart daily at 1 p.m. from the Norfolk Amtrak station, located at 280 Park Avenue, according to a news release from Amtrak. The Norfolk station is the southernmost stop for the Northeast Regional route.

The route stops in cities along the Northeast Corridor — including Richmond and Washington, D.C.

The afternoon departure is in addition to two departures that leave from Norfolk in the early and mid-morning. The Norfolk station doubles as a thruway bus stop connecting to the Newport News Amtrak station.

Amtrak is also restoring a second daily train from Newport News on the Northeast Regional route. The service was canceled earlier this year due to COVID-19.

Tickets can be booked online on Amtrak’s website, the Amtrak app or by calling 800-USA-RAIL.
