Amtrak signal issues caused disruptions to NJ Transit rail service

Amtrak signal issues caused disruptions to New Jersey Transit's rail service on Monday.

Early Monday evening, NJ Transit announced numerous suspensions and delays to its rail service:

  • The Northeast Corridor Line has been suspended because of the signal problems between Penn Station New York and Trenton in both directions. Update: Around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, NJ Transit announced "Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast Line rail service has resumed in both directions between Penn Station New York, Trenton and Bay Head."

  • North Jersey Coastline rail service has been suspended between Penn Station New York and Rahway in both directions. North Jersey Coastline has limited service between Woodbridge and Bay Head with buses provided between Rahway and Woodbridge. Update: Around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, NJ Transit announced "Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast Line rail service has resumed in both directions between Penn Station New York, Trenton and Bay Head."

  • The Raritan Valley Line has delays up to 60 minutes in both directions. Update: As of 10 p.m., Raritan Valley Line was on or close to schedule in both directions.

NJ Transit announced that its rail tickets and passes are being cross-honored by PATH at Newark Penn Station, Hoboken and 33rd Street-NY and NJ Transit's buses and private carriers.

NJ Transit is operating on modified schedules Tuesday for the July 4th holiday.

Amtrak, which is also suffering delays, announced on social media just before 6 p.m. that crews are working to resolve signal issues between Newark and Metropark in Iselin.

Amtrak tweeted: "As of 3:45 am ET, signal power has been restored between Metropark (MET) and Newark (NWK). There may be residual delays through the area."
